Adoption Process

FELINE:

The National Foundation for Animal Rescue believes that all animals deserve a safe, loving home. Our adoptions are guaranteed and we will work with you to find the perfect match.

Many of our foster homes have children, other cats, dogs etc. This means that our cats and dogs are exposed to a variety of different elements which makes them well rounded, happy, healthy, and well socialized.

NFFAR does not support de-clawing. We are more than happy to show you how to trim your cats nails. We will not adopt to you if you intend to de-claw your pet. We sometimes receive de-clawed cats and we would be happy to match you to one.

NFFAR strongly encourages you to take your new pet cat to your veterinarian for a thorough checkup within 7 days of adoption.

The feline adoption fee is $135.00 for one cat and $220.00 for two cats.

This includes:

  • Spay/neuter (age-dependent)
  • FIV/FeLV Test (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus/Feline Leukemia Virus)
  • Distemper Vaccine (s)
  • Rabies Vaccine (age-dependent)
  • 30 day flea treatment such as Frontline as needed. Age permitting
  • De-worming
  • Micro-chipping and online registration with Home Again, Inc.

CANINE:

We believe that every dog should have a chance to lead a happy and healthy life in a loving home.  While most of our dogs are re-homing very easily, we do encounter dogs that have problems; there are numerous reasons for these issues and they are evaluated on an individual basis.

If for any reason you are unable to keep your dog do to a behavioral issue, we recommend you contact a professional dog trainer as soon as possible.  If you need assistance in finding a reputable trainer you may contact us.

If your dog has severe behavioral problems, particularly of aggression towards people, it will be very difficult to re-home.  Aggressive surrenders will have to be evaluated by our professional dog trainer.

Our re-homing program will ensure that your new dog is compatible with your specific family situation. Our re-homing procedure involves a Surrender Contract and information sheet completed by the person in need of surrendering the dog, as well as an adoption application form to be completed by the potential adopter.  A home visit is also conducted prior to adoption.

Our tax-deductible adoption fee for dogs is: $200.00 for one dog and $350.00 for two dogs.

This includes:

  • Spay/neuter (age-dependent)
  • Distemper shot(s)
  • Rabies shot (age-dependent)
  • 4 DX testing (for heartworm disease, erlichiosis, Lyme disease, and anaplasmosis)
  • De-worming
  • Micro-chiping and online registration with Home Again, Inc.
